Main Lodge, Dining Room and Kitchen
The main lodge is centrally located on the island and it is within easy walking distance of all our cabins. Our main lodge building also houses our kitchen and dining room. When dinner is ready, it's just a few feet to walk and you'll be seated. Many guests comment about how nice it is on a cool day to walk into our warm lodge and the first thing that will greet them is the smell of home made bread and fresh coffee. Guests sometimes come in early from their day's fishing and relax in our comfortable lounge, enjoy a beverage and discuss their favorite "secret" fishing spots. The main lodge is also air conditioned on hot summer days.
The main lodge has plush comfortable sofas, wooden chairs and a Northwoods style decor that invites our guests to just sit back, relax, brag a bit and reminisce about their awesome vacation. Also available in the main lodge are our Garden Island logo souvenirs. We have a good selection of hats, t-shirts, golf shirts and sweatshirts if you wish to take something home to remind you of your vacation.
Our Dining Room and Kitchen
Our kitchen has all stainless steel counters and appliances and is kept meticulously clean. Our staff performs a complete cleaning after every meal. We are inspected by the Ontario Health Department regulary with outstanding marks every time. Our dining room has a casual country-style and is very relaxing. It seats up to 24 people but it's very rare that we have that many guests in camp at one time. There is lots of room and we can seat groups together when requested. We are excited to welcome our new Chef, Dennis Koveos, who promises to make each and every meal a main reason for returning to Garden Island again and again.
Please always tell us before hand if any member of your party is on a special diet (low cholesterol, salt free, no eggs or dairy, no pork, etc.) Please let us know well in advance of your arrival. We can usually cater to your special dietary needs if we know well in advance.
Breakfast:We serve breakfast from 7am to 8am so that guests aren't forced to miss the early morning bite with a rigid seating time. Guests can come into the dining room and order from our breakfast menu which includes among other things, pancakes and sausages, scrambled eggs and ham, bacon and eggs, toast and jam, omelettes made to order and more. There is always a pot of fresh coffee on and guests can also order juices, tea and other drinks.
A big part of the northern experience is a shore lunch of fresh walleye. A well-stocked shore lunch kit makes this experience much more enjoyable. Guests will be supplied new propane stoves, new bins, new dishes, cast iron fire pan, dishes, cups, cutlery, dish soap, cloth and leather fire glove. Our kitchen supplies beans, stew, veggies, cookies, cooking oil, flour, condiments and of course your walleye filets or ours.
For guests that don't want to take away their fishing time for a shore lunch we provide a box lunch consisting of your choice of PBJ, egg salad sandwich or tuna salad, cookies and fresh fruit. Made to order box lunches will be sitting on the kitchen counter for guests to grab after breakfast.
Nothing caps off a beautiful day of reeling in big fish like a delicious home cooked meal. We know you will be hungry and we will be prepared for it.
Dinner is a full-coarse meal with all the fix'ns. One evening might be roast beef with yorkshire puddings. The next night might be something on the barbeque like steak, chicken, pork chops or high quality Canadian sausage. Due to requests we have added Italian dishes such as lasagna and garlic bread, spaghetti and hearty meat sauce or the big hit of last summer, home made manicotti.
To complement our big meals are home baked desserts, which are made fresh daily. Desserts are usually home made pies, cakes or fancy sweet specialty desserts. After dinner coffee, hot chocolate or tea is served.
